The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team finished their three-game series with United East opponent Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday with a double-header at Cooper Park in Millersville, Pa. The Chargers lost both 1-2 and 5-12, falling to 15-12-1 overall and 7-7-1 in conference. The Lions improve to 22-7 overall and remains a perfect 9-0 in conference.
Game One, 1-2 Loss
How It Happened: A tightly contested game from the start, Chargers' ace
Andrew Workman got to work early, retiring the top of the Lions lineup. A Lions home run in the top of the second inning put the score to 2-0, their only two runs of the game. The Chargers were unable to get much offensively to pair with their strong defensive showing. Their lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Dylan Witkowski stole second, forcing a bad throw that wound up in the outfield, bringing in
Shane Stephan from third. Workman gave up three hits and struck out four batters, but offensively the Chargers were unable to overcome the Lions.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had three hits and one run… the Lions had three hits, two runs, and two RBIs… Stephan, Witkowski, and
Owen Shimmel each had a hit for the Chargers… Workman pitched seven innings, striking out four batters and allowing only three hits.
Game Two, 5-12 Loss
How It Happened: The teams saved all their scoring for the second game as right away the Lions put three runs on the board. They'd follow up the first inning with two more runs in the top of the second inning leading to an early 5-0 lead. The Chargers managed to score two runs in the bottom of the second as
Harrison Hobdy was walked in and
Brian Coburn singled to center, bringing in
Malachi Sloane. A 5-2 deficit heading into the third, the Lions scored seven more runs through the nine innings of play. The Chargers were able to get two runs in the fifth inning off
Evan Sareyka's single to left and one more in the ninth inning as Shimmel was hit with a pitch to bring in Witkowski. The Lions won 12-5.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had a team seven hits for five runs and five RBIs… the Lions had 16 hits for 12 runs and 10 RBIs… Hobdy had two hits while Sareyka had two RBIs… Irirarry for the Lions went 3-3 with four runs and three RBIs… Greenly got the loss (2-2).
