The Lancaster Bible Baseball team had the opportunity to play in prime time at the home of the Lancaster Stormers, Clipper Magazine Stadium. Unfortunately, their showing against non-conference opponent Lebanon Valley did not go as planned as they lost 20-6. The Chargers drop to 18-13-1 on the year and remain an even .500, 7-7-1 in the United East. The Dutchmen improve to an overall record of 18-16.
Â
How It Happened:Â The Chargers started their night hot with
Harrison Hobdy and
Blake Greenly getting back-to-back hits early in the first.
Owen Shimmel followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Hobdy and take a 1-0 lead. However, the Dutchmen quickly responded in the bottom of the inning with a massive 10 runs, including two home runs. Lancaster Bible could limit Lebanon Valley to just one run in each of the second and third innings, but they failed to post any of their own, resulting in a 12-1 deficit.
Â
Jacob Stolte pitched an impressive fourth inning, keeping the Dutchmen to just one hit. The fifth inning started promising for the Chargers with
Josh Hudson doubling on the team's first at-bat, but unfortunately, he finished the inning left on base. After two more runs from Lebanon Valley, Lancaster Bible took advantage of an inning that saw three walks and an error by scoring their second run of the game. The Dutchmen then answered with three runs at the bottom of the inning, and both sides went scoreless in the seventh. The eighth inning was the Chargers' best offensively, posting four runs, two of them coming from a
Malachi Sloane single to left field. In the end, Lebanon Valley had the best of Lancaster Bible in this game, and the Chargers were on the losing side of 20-6.
