Hobdy, Hauge Propel Chargers Over Knights

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team responded with an 8-6 win at Neumann on Wednesday night. The Chargers scored four runs to open the game propelling them to their 19th win of the season. The Chargers are now 19-13-1 overall while the Knights drop to 14-17 overall.

How It Happened: It was the top of the first inning that set the Chargers up for the rest of the night. The first three Charger batters got on base to set up an early run as Harrison Hobdy was walked. Immediately after, Blake Greenly sent a sacrifice fly to deep center field, bringing in Shane Stephan, and then a single through the left side from Malachi Sloane brought in Hobdy and Dylan Witkowski, giving the Chargers a 4-0 lead.

The Knights managed to score two runs before the Chargers responded with two of their own as Brian Coburn brought in Sloane after a sacrifice fly and Thade Hauge scored after an errant throw. Hauge returned to score another run in the sixth inning, hitting his second home run of the season to give the Chargers a 7-3 lead after six innings.

The Chargers would need that lead as the Knights had just a little more fight left, scoring three more runs to end the game, but another save from Bronson Coburn and a run batted in from Hobdy secured an 8-6 win.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had 11 hits for eight runs and seven RBIs… the Knights had 16 hits for six runs and six RBIs… several Chargers tallied two hits while Hobdy and Hauge each had two RBIs… Greenly earned the win on the mound striking out five batters, while Coburn got the save striking out three batters… Nardo and Rakotz had three hits each for the Knights.

Up Next: The Chargers square off against Cairn on Friday, April 26 at the Trenton Thunder Ballpark at 7:00 p.m.
