Baseball Bounced by Highlanders

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team traveled to Trenton, New Jersey on Friday night to play the Cairn Highlanders at the Trenton Thunder Stadium. The Chargers ultimately fell 9-1 after a tough hitting performance. The Chargers move to 19-14-1 overall and are 7-7-1 in conference while the Highlanders improve to 23-14 overall and are 14-4 in the Skye Division.

How It Happened: The Highlanders got on the scoreboard early, notching a run in the bottom of the first inning. With the Chargers struggling to get the bats going, the Highlanders managed to score four more runs including two in the fifth inning to bring their lead to 5-0 through five innings of play. It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning where a single up the middle from Harrison Hobdy scored Dylan Witkowski for their first run of the game.

The Highlanders scored four more runs over the next two innings and a shutdown of the Chargers' offense led to the 9-1 loss for the Chargers.

By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied five hits for one run and one RBI… the Highlanders had 15 hits for nine runs and six RBIs… Blake Greenly went 2-4 while Hobdy, Witkowski, and Josh Hudson each had a hit… Hobdy had the lone RBI… Warr went 4-5 with two RBIs for Cairn… Workman (2-4) got the loss on the mound giving up nine hits but striking out three batters.

Up Next: The Chargers have one final regular season matchup with the Penn St. Abington Lions on Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to celebrate Senior Day before heading into postseason play.
