Baseball Splits with Abington on Senior Day

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played their final regular season home games on Saturday afternoon, playing a double-header against Penn St. Abington and celebrating senior day. The Chargers split with the Lions on the day, losing game one 11-21 and taking game two 11-5. The Chargers move to 20-15-1 overall to end the regular season and the Lions move to 13-24 overall.

*Before the first game, LBC Athletics took time to recognize five seniors playing their last season for the Chargers, including #15 Nehemiah Brubacher, #19 Brian Coburn, #6 Harrison Hobdy, #33 Bryce Schmidt, and #14 Daniel Yoder.

Game 1: 11-21 Loss

How it Happened:
The Lions began the game roaring, putting up five first-inning runs with three home runs to create separation early. The second inning saw Owen Shimmel draw a four-pitch walk and Harrison Hobdy knock a double to right center to put two in scoring position, but the Chargers could not score. After adding a run in the fourth, Abington exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning to blow it open to a 15-0 deficit. The Chargers found the board in the bottom of the fifth as they loaded the bases and Blake Greenly drove in a run on a fielder's choice. LBC kept it going with an RBI-single from Evan Sareyka and eventually a hit-by-pitch on Malachi Sloane to make it 15-3, then a pinch-hit, 2-RBI double from Harrison Madagan cut the deficit to just 10.

After a quick sixth inning for both sides, both teams ramped up the bats again in the seventh, with Abington scoring six runs on seven hits and an error to make it 21-5. In a last-ditch effort, the Chargers rallied for six runs in the bottom frame, starting with a two-run home run for Micah Sloane. Madagan came through again for his second double of the game, driving in a run to make it a 13-run game. Next was Shane Stephan with an infield single to score Sloane, then later two Chargers scored on an error to bring in back to a 10-run deficit. This is where the rally would end, concluding game one with a 21-11 loss for Lancaster Bible.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers scored 11 runs on 10 hits with four errors, while the Lions went for 21 runs on 24 hits to just two errors
- Harrison Hobdy went 2-3 on the game with a walk and a run scored
- Evan Sareyka went 2-5 with one RBI and two runs scored
- Harrison Madagan subbed in for a 2-2 game with two doubles and three RBIs
- The Lions were led by Shane Fillman with a game-high four hits, three home runs, and eight RBIs
Game 2: 11-5 Win

How it Happened:
The Chargers found the scoreboard first in game two, with back-to-back doubles from Micah Sloane and Brian Coburn making 2-0 for LBC. The Chargers struggled through the third inning, however, as Abington erased the deficit and took a 5-2 lead behind short hits to shallow infield and some other hits that found holes in the defense.

Lancaster Bible found their answer in the bottom of the fourth inning as the offense exploded behind a three-run home run from Coburn to tie the game up at 5-5. Harrison Hobdy scored on an error to put LBC back in front, then Harrison Madagan hit his third double of the day to drive in Evan Sareyka. Then it was Thade Hauge slicing a double down the right field line to bring in Madagan and a Nick Colarossi RBI-single to make it a 9-5 ballgame after four.

Coburn led off the fifth inning and stayed hot, smashing his second homer of the game to put LBC past 10 runs, then Hobdy crushed one of his own to round out the scoring at 11 runs. Some solid pitching from starter Dylan Witkowski helped close out a complete game and give the Chargers an 11-5 senior day win over the Lions.
