The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team enters the United East Conference Championship as the number three-seed this weekend and begins with a matchup against Penn St. Abington on Friday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. at the host, Penn St. Harrisburg. The Chargers finished the 2024 regular season 20-15-1 overall and a conference record of 7-7-1.
Season Overview: Their first 20-win season since 2016, the Chargers racked up an 11-game win streak early on to propel them through the end of the season. Conference wise, the Chargers were able to get sweeps over Penn College and St. Mary's (Md.) while getting a win versus Penn St. Berks which proved pivotal in earning the three-seed. The Chargers are led by graduate student
Blake Greenly and sophomore
Dylan Witkowski who are hitting .390 and .386 on the season to go along with 65 runs batted in and 67 runs scored between the two of them. Witkowski also has the most wins on the mound for the Chargers tallying five total this season, freshman
Bronson Coburn has been a key contributor in the relief position attaining a team best 3.34 earned run average while going 3-1 on the season with three total saves.
Look Back: Friday will be the sixth matchup with the Lions this season, an unusual number due to the Chargers picking up two non-conference games with the Lions at the end of the season. In those five games, the Chargers are 1-4 with an average loss margin of four runs. In a two-day series with the Lions on April 5-6, the Chargers lost all three by a combined six runs while their worst loss came in an 11-21 loss this past Saturday at home. However, the Chargers turned around and beat the Lions the same day 11-5 in the second game behind some heavy duty hitting and tough pitching from Witkowski.
