The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team squared off against the one-seed Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday amidst a rainy afternoon falling 17-8. The Chargers are now 21-16-1 overall and the Lions 33-7 overall.
How It Happened: Using the momentum they gained in a 16-3 win over Penn St. Abington the day before, the Chargers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of play. It began with
Blake Greenly and
Malachi Sloane both scoring off errors in the field,
Evan Sareyka then scored on a wild pitch for their third run. The Lions however rebounded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
The two squads continued to battle before the Lions took a commanding 11-4 lead by scoring six runs in the third and fourth inning. The fifth inning proved significant as the Chargers grabbed four runs on two Lions errors. Down 11-8 and facing their first loss of the tournament, the Chargers looked to rally but it was the Lions that took advantage of the position scoring six more runs to win 17-8.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had four hits for eight runs and seven RBIs… Sareyka led with a team high three RBIs and Sloane finished with two…
Harrison Hobdy had a hit, a run, an RBI, and two stolen bases… the Lions had 16 hits for 17 runs and 16 RBIs… the Lions had eight total errors on the day…
Dylan Witkowski got the loss while Eden got the win for the Lions with five strikeouts.
Up Next: The Chargers will play St. Mary's (Md.) on Monday, May 6 at 12:00 p.m. for an opportunity to advance to the Volt Division Championship.
