Field Hockey Drops 2024 Opener to Houghton

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey started 2024 in Aston, Pa. to take on Houghton on Friday evening, losing by a score of 4-0. The Chargers move to 0-1 overall while the Highlanders are 1-0 overall after their first win.

How it Happened:
Houghton pushed the tempo early, getting several corners before they found the back of the box to take a 1-0 lead. Junior goalie Amanda Hoover made several saves later in the quarter and senior Haley Stahl made a defensive save to help end the first period down one.

The second half saw an onslaught of goals from the Highlanders, scoring three total before halftime. The first two were scored off of penalty corners, then an open field goal made it a 4-0 deficit after 30 minutes of play.

Lancaster Bible worked towards the goal late in the third quarter with sophomore Riley Danko leaving a shot wide. A few more saves from Hoover helped keep the Highlanders off the board and end the game with a 4-0 defeat.

By the Numbers:
- The Highlanders outshot Lancaster Bible 19-1 and held the Chargers without a penalty corner in the game
- Riley Danko had the lone shot of the game for the Chargers
- Amanda Hoover made six saves in goal

From the Coach:
"We are so proud of this team's effort tonight. They came out hard in the second half and did not let a sequence of goals scored against them in the 2nd quarter affect our mentality. They held them to only 2 corners and no goals in the second half which is such a testament to their grit and tenacity." ~ Head Coach Becky Elliott

Information to Know:
This was the fourth matchup between the Chargers and the Highlanders, with Houghton winning all four times.
