The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team squared off against the Eastern Mennonite Royals in a neutral site contest earning their first win of the 2024 season, 2-0. Senior forward
Molly Gray scored both as the Chargers improve to 1-1 overall. The Royals drop to 0-2 overall.
How It Happened: The game started off relatively slow as the first penalty corner came ten minutes into the game for the Royals. The Chargers responded with an offensive attack of their own notching two penalty corners and a shot off the post to end the first period.
Keeping the offensive pressure alive, the Chargers rattled off four more shots in the second period before Gray scored the Chargers first goal of the game and the season with just 14-seconds to spare in the first half.
In the third period, the Chargers outshot the Royals 3-2, but none turned up successful. Looking to extend the lead however, Gray responded with another goal just over four minutes into the fourth period to extend the lead to 2-0. The Chargers defense turned up big keeping the Royals off the scoreboard leading to a 2-0 win.
From the Coach:Â
"After a slow start, we were able to use Molly's last minute goal in the second quarter to fuel us for the second half. While we struggled to capitalize on our offensive chances, we are proud that we hung tough and came away with our first win of the season. The weekend was a great start to the season!" -
