The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team hosted the Lycoming Warriors on Tuesday night for a non-conference contest under the lights. The Chargers ended up falling on a late goal in the fourth period 2-1. The Chargers move to 1-5Â overall while the Warriors improve to 4-2 on the season.
How It Happened: The game started slow as nearly eight minutes went by without a penalty corner or shot on goal from either side. It wasn't until the ninth minute of the first period that the Warriors got their first goal of the game and only goal of the half. The Chargers responded with an attack of their own after securing a penalty corner, but it turned up unsuccessful.
Entering the second period with a 1-0 deficit, the Chargers were unable to garner any momentum on the offensive side but defensively they stood tall. Chargers goalkeeper
Amanda Hoover tallied four of her 11 saves of the night while several other attempts were thwarted by the Chargers' defense.
Looking to bounce back in the second half, Hoover continued to grab saves and the Chargers' offense started to get closer to putting one in. It was with just 11-seconds to go in the third period that a penalty corner set up a goal for senior
Molly Gray on an assist from sophomore
Riley Danko, tying the game 1-1. This was Gray's third goal of the season.
With the momentum swaying, the fourth period featured a lot of back-and-forth action as both teams looked to claim the lead. It was the Warriors, however, that got the last goal to go with just under five minutes left to go on to win 2-1.
From the Coach: "We are so proud of their efforts tonight. Even though it wasn't the result we wanted, they played hard, together, and didn't give up. The intensity they had at the end of the first half to get a corner and then score on that corner with less than 30 seconds was impressive. It gave us momentum going into the second half and this game is giving us momentum for the weekend." –
Head Coach Becky Elliott
By the Numbers: The Chargers were outshot 20-3 and lost the penalty corners battle 10-2… Hoover had 11 saves on the game… Gray had the goal and Danko had the assist for the Chargers… Maggie Campbell scored both for the Warriors.
Up Next: The Chargers hit the road for a weekend trip at Sweet Briar on Friday, September 20 and Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, September 21.
