Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Jackson Whitt

Chargers Fall on Senior Day

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team hosted St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, October 11, as the Chargers celebrated Senior Day. Prior to the game, LBC honored its five seniors: Gabby Dunlap, Hope Swarey, Amanda Hoover, Riley Danko, and Amelia Huey.

St. Mary's would go on to score four unanswered goals over the course of the game despite Lancaster Bible's defensive efforts. The Seahawks improve to 8-4 on the season as the Chargers will move to 2-9.

How it Happened:
The Seahawks would look to strike first as they riffled a shot that went wide. Pressure would continue to build forcing Amanda Hoover to record her first save of the night followed by a Seahawk penalty corner. While no direct result came of that corner, the Chargers would continue to be on the defensive until a Seahawks shot found its way into the back of the net at the 7:30 mark. The first period would end with a Seahawk 1-0 lead.

Lancaster Bible would continue to hold the defensive line early into the second period, as they would record another save 24 seconds into the next period. St. Mary's (Md.) would continue to swarm Lancaster Bible with four penalty corners, putting the defense to the test. Eventually, a St. Mary's (Md.) shot would get through the defense and past the Charger's goalkeeper to extend the lead to 2-0. However, they weren't done there, as one final goal before halftime would make the score 3-0.

The Seahawks continued the first half pressure into the second half, as the Charger's Amelia Huey would record her first save of the game. However, after a series of penalty corners, the Seahawks would record their fourth and final goal of the game. The Chargers would not back down as they would take to the offensive forcing a penalty corner. Riley Danko would take a shot that was blocked by a Seahawk defender.

The fourth period would flow smoothly as the game went back and forth for a majority of the time. The final five minutes of the period would see an increase in Seahawk corners, but a Charger's defense that would continue to keep the period scoreless.

By the Numbers:
Chargers were outshot by the Seahawks 1-22, including 0-13 in shots on goal. The Seahawks would force 17 penalty corners to the Chargers 1. The Chargers would record nine saves to the Devils none. Emma Watkins, Josie Shermeyer, and Brenna Ziegler (2x) were the Seahawk goal scorers..
