Chargers Clinch Playoffs in Overtime

The Lancaster Bible field hockey team was on the road at Cedar Crest for their final regular season game. The Chargers went down in the third, but a goal in the fourth period forced overtime where a Chargers goal would give them the victory. The Chargers would finish the regular season 3-12 as the Falcons would fall to 2-13.

How it Happened:
The Chargers would hold the Falcons scoreless in the first period. The Falcons would have an opportunity late as they would force a penalty corner. The Falcons would be unable to record a shot.

Riley Danko would start the offense for Lancaster Bible in the second period, as she would force a save. Cedar Crest would respond quickly as they forced their second penalty corner of the game followed by two shots that would go wide. A third penalty corner would result in an Amanda Hoover save. Hoover would add one more save right before halftime to keep the first half scoreless.

The Charger's defense continued to hold strong early into the third period as Hoover would record her third save of the night three minutes in. Pressure continued to build against the Chargers and would eventually find a way through as the Falcons would take a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth period.

Lancaster Bible, down 1-0, took to the offensive forcing a penalty corner. Cedar Crest would respond with their own pressure, but Hoover would keep the game one score with a save. The play would flip halves as Riley Danko forced a Cedar Crest save, followed up by a penalty corner and another Riley Danko shot on goal. With less than three minutes in the game, Lancaster Bible's Julia Petrie would find the equalizer and her first goal of the season. Cedar Crest would get one last opportunity, but the shot would go wide.

Feeling the momentum, the Charger's Bailey Simmons forced a save less than a minute into overtime. They continued the offensive pressure with another shot on goal, saved by the Falcons. The final attempt for the Chargers would be the one to extend the season as Bailey Simmons found the back net at the 64:45 mark.

By the Numbers:
Chargers were outshot by the Falcons 8-11 but tied 7-7 in shots on goal. Cedar Crest would force seven penalty corners to Lancaster Bible's three. The Chargers would record six saves to the Falcons five. The Charger's goal scorers were Julia Petrie and Bailey Simmons. The Falcons lone goal scorer was Olivia Horninger.
