Women’s Volleyball Wins at Notre Dame (Md.)

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team had a road United East matchup with Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday night, earning the 3-0 sweep. The Chargers improve to 9-9 overall and 4-1 in conference while the Gators fall to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.

How it Happened:
The Chargers had a strong start as they went up 3-0 behind a service ace and a kill by sophomore Madison Reap. The Gators got right back in it with five in a row, then the teams saw six early ties as they traded blows back and forth. Lancaster Bible worked to a three-point lead, then landed four kills in a row including three from junior Lea Sareyka to extend the lead to 19-13. The Chargers maintained that lead for the rest of the set, taking it 25-17 to go up 1-0 in the match.

Set two started close between the two teams as junior Eden Belford had a kill and an ace and senior Madison Timberlake collected an ace. Notre Dame (Md.) launched a four-point run to take a 10-6 lead and force a Charger timeout, but LBC responded with five of the next six points to tie the set at 11-11 with a block and a kill from senior Riley Dodrer. The Gators had four more to force another timeout, but the Chargers had another response as an ace from Reap capped a four-point spurt to tie it at 15. Lancaster Bible powered ahead 19-17 after back-to-back aces from junior Tessa Kwiatkowski, then Dodrer and Reap each landed kills before Belford closed it out with a kill to take set two 25-22.

The Chargers had their best start yet in set three as an ace from Reap and three straight kills by Sareyka got the Chargers out to a 7-1 lead to force an early timeout. The Gators pulled within five multiple times, but Lancaster Bible kept up the lead with scattered kills from Sareyka, Dodrer and Belford. The latter portion of the set was dominated by two big solo blocks from senior Jessica Hendricks, helping cap a big 25-11 set win and completing the conference sweep of the Gators.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers led in every category, out-blocking the Gators 8-4 and leading in kills 38-31
- Lea Sareyka had a team-high 13 kills to lead the Chargers and added three block assists
- Madison Reap had 10 kills and match-highs of 15 digs and three service aces
