Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Jackson Whitt

Chargers Fall in the 53rd Minute

The Lancaster Bible field hockey team was on the road in Madison, N.J. to compete against the Devils of FDU Fordham. One fourth period goal would be enough to give the Devils the 1-0 edge over the Chargers. Lancaster Bible will drop to 2-8 on the year as FDU Fordham will improve to 6-5.

How it Happened:
The Chargers would look to apply pressure first as they would force a penalty corner four minutes into the first period. Rebekah Hoover would follow up the corner with a shot on goal, saved by the Devils, followed by a penalty shot. Riley Danko would take the shot, but the Devils would record their second save of the period. The offensive pressure by both teams would come to a stop for the rest of the period, ending 0-0.

FDU Fordham would look to bounce back with some offense of their own to start the second period, firing two shots, one wide and the other saved by goalie Amanda Hoover. After a pause in the attack, FDU Fordham would force their first corner of the game at the 24:54 mark, followed by a block shot and another save by Hoover. FDU would have another chance at goal with a penalty shot, but it would go wide. Lancaster Bible would close the period with Bailey Simmons and Ellie Bollinger both taking shots on goal that were saved.

The Devils would come back out in the third right back on the offensive, forcing two penalty corners within the first two minutes. The Chargers would respond with two penalty corners of their own at the 36:41 and 36:50 mark of the game. The third period would close with the Chargers searching for a goal, but the Devils stood strong defending three corners and three shots ending the period 0-0.

After a Lancaster Bible shot, it would be FDU Fordham to control the last period. A series of three corners and four shots would eventually lead to the fifth shot being the first and only game by FDU Fordham at 52:53. Lancaster Bible would look to respond late by forcing a save at the 59:58 mark leading to a last second penalty corner. Time would run out on Lancaster Bible as the lone goal would give FDU Fordham the win.

By the Numbers:
Chargers were outshot by the Devils 10-14, but outshot Devils 7-5 in shots on goal. Each team would force 7 penalty corners. Chargers would record four saves to the Devils seven. Julianna Medina would be the lone scorer of the game.
