The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team traveled to New York City, N.Y. to take on (RV) NYU for a non-conference contest, losing by a score of 95-83 against last year's national Runner-Up. The Chargers drop to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the United East while the Violets improve to 8-1 overall.
Â
How it Happened:
The Violets began with the first five points before sophomore
Bennett Bowers scored for the Chargers two minutes in, then after a layup by junior
Daniel King NYU launched an eight-point run to take a 16-4 lead. Freshman
Jacob Lewis scored the next five for the Chargers on a made 3-pointer and a fast-break jumper, then juniors
Connor Storr and
Camden Hurst strung together six points to cut the lead to nine. Senior
Luke Rumbaugh later had a bucket, then the Violets tacked on another run of six points and got the lead up to 19 points before back-to-back threes from Bowers and junior
Trey Grube. Bowers and Grube both had another bucket in the final minute, cutting the lead to a dozen at halftime down 49-37.
Â
NYU had the first five of the second half before Hurst and Rumbaugh strung six points together to drop the deficit to 11. Rumbaugh and Storr added more points, then senior
Reaves Hooks completed an and-one layup for the three-point play to make the deficit single-digits at 61-53. This, however, was the closest the Chargers would get in the second half as NYU built their lead back up and held on despite consistent LBC scoring from Hurst down the stretch. The Chargers had six made threes in the second half, but the Violets held on and won by 12 at home for the Chargers' second loss of the season.
