Men’s Basketball Downs Berks in United East Opener

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team traveled to Reading, Pa. to take on Penn St. Berks in their first United East game of the season, leaving with a 100-74 victory. The Chargers improve to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Lions fall to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference.

How it Happened:
The Chargers began the game on an 11-2 scoring run as junior Camden Hurst scored seven points on the run, beginning the scoring on two layups and making three from the charity stripe. The Lions scored five in a row to cut back into the lead and then got within three, but Hurst knocked down a three-pointer to get the lead back to six. The next star for LBC was junior Trey Grube, hitting three 3-pointers over the next three minutes to help power the Chargers to a 15-point lead at 31-16 with nine minutes to go. After only scoring on free throws for the next few minutes, junior Daniel King and senior Luke Rumbaugh each got layups to go, then King had another layup as the Chargers led by 15 again with under five minutes to play. The Lions fought back to within 11 before senior Tyshaun Pulley made a layup, then Hurst closed out his electric 19-point first half with a three and a layup as the Chargers led 54-35 at the halftime break.

Junior Connor Storr opened the scoring for the Chargers in the second half, then later freshman Jacob Lewis knocked down a three and Hurst and Lewis each added scores for a 22-point lead at 63-41. Pulley and Lewis helped keep the lead at 20 points later on, but Penn St. Berks fought as they got back to within 15 points at 70-55 before Hurst ended the run. King had four in a row for the Chargers as the teams traded scores over the next few minutes, then Hurst drained a 3-pointer to top 30 points on the day. Lewis had a pair of free throws to get the lead back over 20, then Storr had a pair of buckets and senior Nile Austin drilled a three to get LBC over 90 points. Freshman Nas Joy then had a nice assist to Hurst to cap a nine-point Chargers run, with Lancaster Bible finishing off a dominant road win in conference play with 100 total points.
