The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team hosted the Notre Dame (Md.) Gators on Wednesday afternoon falling 22-9. The Chargers are now 3-2 overall while the Gators improve to 1-2 on the season.
How It Happened: The Gators scored one run to open the 1
st inning, but it was
Owen Shimmel's grand slam in the bottom of the inning that got the afternoon started. Despite the strong start and 4-1 lead, the Gators proceeded to respond with 10 unanswered runs of their own across the next four innings.
The Chargers didn't get their next run until the 5
th inning when
Micah Sloane doubled down the left field line bringing in two runs. Sloane proceeded to steal third and score off an infield error from the Gators to bring the Chargers to within four, 11-7. Shimmel followed up Sloane's score with his second homerun of the day to end the inning 11-8.
With the Chargers feeling the momentum move,
Malachi Sloane hit a solo shot to left field bringing their deficit to within two runs, but the Gators were not done. It was another 11 unanswered runs from the Gators to end the game that handed the Chargers their second loss of the season. Â
