Sareyka’s Walk-Off Splits Conference Bid with Penn St. Abington

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team hosted United East foe the Penn St. Abington Lions on Saturday splitting the conference doubleheader. Despite losing game one 17-7, the Chargers stormed back in the second game to win 20-18 in dramatic fashion as Evan Sareyka sent a two-run homerun over the fence in the bottom of the 9th. The Chargers are now 17-17 overall and 7-6 in conference action while the Lions drop to 15-15 overall and 8-5 in conference.

Game One, 17-7 Loss
The Lions began the game with a 3-0 lead but the Chargers quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning. It was the Lions from there as they poured in 10 runs through the first six innings of the game to claim a 13-4 lead. The Chargers tacked on a few more runs but it wasn't enough as the Lions won in eight innings, 17-7.

Game Two, 20-18 Win
Looking for a spark in the second game, it was the Lions that found the scoreboard first in to open the game putting two runs on the board. But the Chargers took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning for the first time on the day as Nick Colagrossi hit his first of two homeruns for the game. The Lions added four runs in the 3rd inning but the Chargers homered twice in the bottom of the inning to keep a 6-4 lead. The back and forth play continued for the rest of the game as the score was tied three more times as there was a combined 38 runs scored.
It was the 9th inning where the fireworks happened as the Lions took an 18-16 lead in the top of the 8th inning. With their backs against the wall and a strong defensive stance in the top of the inning, it was Shane Stephan's two-run homerun that tied the game at 18-18. With the momentum on their side and the Chargers on their feet, Sareyka followed Stephan's clutch hit with one of his own as He sent the game winner over the centerfield fence to win 20-18.
