The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team opened the 21st season on the road in Houghton, N.Y. They could not find the back of the net as they fell to the Highlanders 3-0. The Chargers will start the year 0-1 as Houghton moves to 1-0.
How it Happened:
The Highlanders came out ready to go in the first period, forcing five penalty corners and firing three shots on goal. Senior goalie Amanda Hoover was able to save the first, but the other two found their way behind her as the Highlanders led 2-0 after the first.
The second period was no letup, as two minutes in the Highlanders added another goal to their total to make it 3-0. By the end of the period the Highlanders had added five more corners, but not more goals.
The Chargers were able to settle into the third period as they secured their first corner followed by a shot that was blocked by senior Riley Danko. The game became back and forth until the 44th minute when the Highlanders secured their 13th corner of the game. Hoover would keep the period scoreless though, securing a save with 30 seconds remaining.
Heading into the fourth period, it was the Chargers to threaten first. Riley Danko would force a save by Houghton goalie Amber Cribbs four minutes in. Hoover would secure her third save of the game, but it was not enough as the Chargers would go on to lose the game 3-0.
By the Numbers:
Houghton out shot Lancaster Bible 14-2 and 6-1 in shots on goal. Lancaster Bible would secure 3 saves for the game. Houghton would win penalty corners 15-1. Adria Hartzler (2) and Kylee Barshinger were the Highlander goal scorers.
