Chargers Drop Five-Setter at Dickinson

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team traveled to Carlisle, Pa. for a road matchup with Dickinson, falling in five sets in a tightly contested match. The Chargers fall to 5-8 overall while the Red Devils improve to 9-4 overall.

How it Happened:
Dickinson got out to a lead in set one as they led 5-1, keeping the Chargers at bay early. The Chargers went on a four-point run in the middle of the set with kills from juniors Eden Belford and Jessica Fletcher, coming within one point. The Red Devils responded with five straight points, but the Chargers fought to stay in it. Down three, Lancaster Bible rattled off three in a row capped by a service ace from junior Madeline Reed, tying the set at 22-22. The Chargers scored the final three points of the set with a kill and an ace by junior Lea Sareyka to steal the first set 25-23.

The Chargers grabbed the lead in set two as Belford and Fletcher both landed aces for a 7-3 lead. The middle of the set was dominated by Dickinson as they put together a 10-point scoring run to surge ahead 16-9. The Chargers chipped away at that lead as Belford had two kills and an ace, then Reed had another ace to bring the score within one, but Dickinson was able to hold on and close the set 25-21. Set three was close throughout as neither team led by more than three points, but Dickinson held the early advantage. Belford bookended a four-point run with kills for the Chargers to take a 17-16 lead, but the Red Devils pulled back ahead by three points late. Lancaster Bible pulled ahead 24-23 to force set point, but Dickinson came back with three in a row to win the set 26-24 and take the lead in the match.

The Red Devils led early in the fourth set as they got three aces in a row to drop. It wasn't until late in the set where the Chargers got even, tying the set at 17-all and again at 20-all after two kills by Belford. Sophomore Maggie Kwiatkowski came through in a big way for LBC as she landed three straight aces, helping put the set out of reach as senior Riley Dodrer shut the door with a kill to win 25-23 and force a decisive fifth set.

Belford had a kill and sophomore Candace Fox landed an ace as the score was tied at two in set five, but it was all Dickinson from there as they rattled off nine consecutive points to take a huge 11-2 lead.
