The Lancaster Bible field hockey team was on the road in Stevenson, Md for a non-conference match up against the Mustangs of Stevenson. The Chargers would remain scoreless through 60 minutes of play. Lancaster Bible will fall to 2-6 on the season as Stevenson improves to 9-1.
How it Happened:
The Chargers would be met with pressure early as the Mustangs would score 1:32 into the game. Pressure would continue to build as the Mustangs would earn two corners followed by the second goal of the game. Two Charger's corners, including a shot by
Bailey Simmons, would break up the Mustangs offense. It would not be for long as the Mustangs would go on and score two more goals within a minute to give them a 4-0 leading after the first period.
Stevenson would start the second period with a shot on goal saved by
Amanda Hoover. Lancaster Bible would take to the offensive forcing a penalty corner followed by a shot on goal by
Riley Danko that was saved. Action would level out for both sides for a few minutes, that would be broken by Stevenson's two shots on goal, both saved my
Amanda Hoover. It would only be for so long as Stevenson would score their fifth goal of the game heading into half.
Play would find a rhythm for both sides to start the second half. It would be a Mustang's goal eight minutes in that would break the rhythm of the half. The Charger's would record two more saves to end the period ending the third 5-0.
A goal 30 seconds into the fourth period by Stevenson would continue to show their offensive pressure. They would go on to force a penalty leading to another goal to extend the lead to 8-0. Lancaster Bible would not back down forcing their own corner and shot on goal that was saved. Stevenson would find time to score one more goal with 30 seconds left to give them the 9-0 final.
By the Numbers:
Chargers were out shot by the Mustangs 4-21 including 3-16 in shots on goal. Mustangs would force six penalty corners compared to the Charges four. Chargers would record seven saves to the Mustangs three.
Numbers to Know:
Amanda Hoover would record her 400th save of her career making her the first Charger in program history to do so.
