The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) released their weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with the Chargers'
David Helms (Jr.) earning Track & Field Athlete of the Week. David is the first LBC student-athlete this season to earn NCCAA weekly recognition and is his first NCCAA honor in his second season.
Â
Helms put up a strong performance on Friday at the LVC Invite, winning the 3,000-Meters event with a time of 9:00.47 and placing third in the Mile Run with a 4:34.04 time. Making the NCCAA qualifying mark in both events, David's times were both less than six seconds off the school records and were both career bests. He currently sits atop the United East Conference in all three of the Mile Run, 3,000-Meters, and 5,000-Meters and ranks first in the NCCAA in the 5,000-Meters, ranking third in both the Mile Run and 3,000-Meters as well. David also sits at 36th in NCAA Division III in the 5,000-Meters with a time of 15:10.80, which he ran back in December at the Diplomat Open.
Â
The Chargers will take part in the Alvernia Winter Invite on Saturday, January 17 in Reading, Pa. as Helms and the Chargers look to continue their preparation for postseason play in February.
