Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Mark Rowles

Field Hockey Falls 3-2 at Wilson

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team traveled to Chambersburg, Pa. to take on Wilson in United East play on Saturday morning, narrowly falling by a score of 3-2. The Chargers drop to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the United East while the Phoenix improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the United East.

How it Happened:
The Phoenix got off to a hot start as they scored off a penalty corner in the first 72-seconds, taking the early 1-0 lead at home. The possession went back and forth later on before Wilson connected on a second goal about nine minutes in, extending their lead to two. Gracie Hoffman (So.) and Grace Barnett (Jr.) each had shots late in the quarter with Barnett's being saved on goal, with the Chargers trailing by two after 15 minutes.

Hoffman had a shot on goal early in the second quarter that was saved, leading to a penalty corner where Barnett had a shot that missed high. Wilson then had a pair of on-target shots that were saved by Amelia Huey (Gr.) in goal, then Hoffman returned the favor with two shots on goal on the other end that were both saved. The Chargers had two corners in the final minute with Riley Danko (Sr.) missing a shot high, trailing 2-0 at the midway point of the match.

The Chargers had early momentum in the third quarter as Danko had a shot off a corner that was blocked, then LBC drew five more corners in the first six minutes of the period with four shots as a result, including one on goal by Abby Olver (Fr.) that was saved. After a green card on the Chargers, the Phoenix took advantage as they came down the field and scored their third goal of the game, taking a big lead into the final period.

Lancaster Bible pressed early in the fourth with two corners and two shots in the first five minutes, then off another corner, the Chargers fired three shots on goal before finally cashing in as Rebekah Hoover (So.) secured the score off an assist by Danko, cutting into the lead at 3-1. Danko then had another pair of shots before a penalty corner was received by Bailey Simmons (So.) who passed it to Hoover, scoring a second time to make it a one-score game with under six minutes to play. Wilson, however, locked up on their end as they took five shots down the stretch and kept the ball out of the Chargers' possession to secure the 3-2 home victory.
