Hoffman’s Hat-Trick Lifts Chargers over Immaculata

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team hosted Immaculata for a United East matchup on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory for their third consecutive win. The Chargers improve to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the United East while the Mighty Macs drop to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the United East.

How it Happened:
The Chargers made an early stand on defense as Amelia Huey (Gr.) made two saves in goal, then a pair of penalty corners for the Mighty Macs were unsuccessful. Around the 10-minute mark, Immaculata had a break towards the goal and made the connection for the opening score, taking the lead on the road heading into the second quarter.

Immaculata scored once again within the first four minutes of quarter #2, extending their lead to 2-0. The Chargers began to fight back in the game just two minutes later as they worked the ball up the field, with Lily Wood (Fr.) making the final connection to Gracie Hoffman (So.) as she broke to the goal and knocked LBC's first goal of the game through to cut the lead to one. After a save by each team's goalie, the Chargers drew two penalty corners with the second one coming out to Riley Danko (Sr.), launching the ball towards the goal with Ayla Zwally (So.) waiting on the left side to tap it in and tie the game at 2-2 in the 25th minute. The Chargers had one more shot on goal before the half, with the score tied at two apiece after 30 minutes.

The Mighty Macs had momentum early in the third quarter with three shots and two shots on goal, but Huey made both saves and Zwally came down with a shot on goal off a corner. On a scramble in the circle with about three minutes left in the quarter, Hoffman knocked in the go-ahead score to put LBC up 3-2 to complete the comeback and take an advantage into the final period.

The Chargers had the edge early in the fourth as Rebekah Hoover (So.) had a shot on goal off a corner, then Immaculata flipped the field for a shot that was saved by Hailey Whitmoyer (Jr.) on defense. On the next pass for LBC, a shot by Hoffman resulted in a penalty stroke for the Chargers, with Danko lining up and drilling the shot for another score to extend the lead to 4-2. The Chargers weren't done even down the stretch as Bailey Simmons (So.) found Hoffman for her third goal of the game, netting the hat-trick as the Chargers took down the Mighty Macs in comeback fashion for a 5-2 victory.
