The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team competed on the road Saturday morning at the Bowers Center, falling to Elizabethtown College by a 6-1 final. The Chargers move to 0-2 overall.
Elizabethtown secured the doubles point after sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles,
Cole Stoltzfus and
Cole Scheihing faced a strong Blue Jay duo and were defeated 6-0.
Cameron Tripp and Hemberth Pena battled at No. 2, falling 6-2, while
Patrick Grootboom and
Jon Breinich dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 3.
In singles play, the Chargers continued to compete hard across the lineup. Stoltzfus took on a tough opponent at No. 1 singles, falling in straight sets. At No. 2, Scheihing showed resilience, earning a pair of games in the second set before dropping the match 6-0, 6-2. Tripp (No. 3) and Pena (No. 4) each fought through long rallies but came up short in 6-3, 6-2 decisions. Grootboom pushed the pace at No. 5 singles, narrowly dropping the first set 6-4 before falling in two.
Lancaster Bible's highlight of the morning came at No. 6 singles, where Breinich delivered a gritty three-set victory. He captured the opening set 7-5, fell 6-4 in the second, and responded with an 11-9 win in the match tiebreak to earn the Chargers' lone point.
