Chargers Stifled in Semifinals by Penn St. Harrisburg

The #1-seed Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team hosted their United East Semifinal matchup on Tuesday night as they took on #4-seed Penn St. Harrisburg, falling by a score of 72-57 after a huge second half by the Lions. The Chargers see their postseason run end at 20-7 overall while the Lions improve to 17-10 overall and advance to the United East Championship game where they will take on #3-seed Cairn in Langhorne, Pa. on Saturday for the conference title.

How it Happened:
The Chargers' Connor Storr (Jr.) began with the first six points of the game, including a fast-break dunk off a turnover to start LBC strong. The Lions hit a pair of threes over the next few minutes before Jacob Lewis (Fr.) answered with a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Chargers up 11-6. The next time up the floor, Camden Hurst (Jr.) pulled up from deep to hit a three, then Storr kept LBC up seven on a pair of free throws. The fouls piled up for both teams and Trey Grube (Jr.) went 4-4 from the line to give LBC a nine-point lead, but Penn St. Harrisburg controlled the next few minutes as they battled back within two at 26-24. Bennett Bowers (So.) then hit a three for some separation, then in the final minute Hurst hit another three before a Lions' three at the buzzer made it a 36-29 game at halftime.

Storr began the second half with a driving layup plus a foul for a three-point play, then Penn St. Harrisburg took over the game as they led a massive swing on a 15-point run, holding LBC scoreless for almost six minutes of game time. Hurst had a pair of free throws before the Lions scored another eight straight before Grube knocked down a three on a fast-break to cut the lead to eight and force a Lions timeout. The runs continued for Harrisburg with another eight in a row, then later Grube had another three with just over four minutes to play for an 11-point deficit. The Lions held onto the ball and hit their free throws down the stretch to close out a road win over the Chargers and advance to the United East title game.
