The Lancaster Bible College Softball team returned to action on Wednesday morning in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. as they played two games, falling to Coast Guard 7-1 followed by an 8-3 win over Penn St. Scranton to split the day. The Chargers move to 3-4 overall while the Bears improve to 3-2 overall and the Lions fall to at least 0-3 overall.

How it Happened:
Each team went 1-2-3 in the first inning as
Ava Stern (Fr.) got a pair of strikeouts, then the Chargers struck first in the 2nd inning as
Carleigh Cleland (Jr.) grounded out to drive in a run. The Chargers' defense held strong over the next few innings as they escaped a few jams, but the Bears opened the door in the top of the 5th as several errors led to four Coast Guard runs coming across the plate in the inning, launching them in front. The Chargers had a few more hits as
Kendall Jackman (Fr.) hit a single in the 6th and
KariAnn Mecke (Jr.) popped a double in the 7th, but the Bears added three more runs as they closed out the win over the Chargers.

How it Happened:
The Lions loaded the bases in the 1st inning, plating two runs as a result to grab the early lead. The Chargers got one back in the top of the 2nd as
Ava Stern hit a leadoff triple to left field, scoring on a passed ball the next batter as LBC trailed by just one. After back-to-back 1-2-3 innings on defense, the Chargers turned it up on offense as three straight batters reached base with one out, then a fielder's choice and an error resulted in both
Maddison Atkins and
Ila Rowatti (So.) to score, putting the Chargers in front. Then,
Grace Goodman (So.) drove in
Brigietta Rendon (So.) the next at-bat, then
Rebekah Hoover (Fr.) singled through the left side for a RBI as the Chargers went ahead 5-2 in the 4th. Stern crushed another triple in the 5th inning before Atkins hit a sacrifice fly to drive her in, putting the Chargers up by four runs. Penn St. Scranton got one back in the bottom frame, then Lancaster Bible erased it with two more in the 6th as Goodman and Hoover both scored for an 8-3 LBC lead. The defense retired six of the final seven Scranton hitters as they ended the day with a victory.
