Baseball Drops Two at Shoremen

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played a non-conference double-header on Saturday afternoon at Washington (Md.), falling twice by scores of 14-4 and 9-6. The Chargers fall to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the United East while the Shoremen improve to 11-8 overall.

Game 1: 4-14 Loss (7 inn.)

How it Happened:
The Chargers struggled early in the game with just one hit in the first four innings, while the Shoremen piled on the runs as they scored in three of four innings for a 6-0 lead. The Chargers got on the board in the top of the 5th as Malachi Sloane (Jr.) drove in a run on a groundout, then Alex Fox (Fr.) scored on an error as the Chargers cut into the lead at 6-2. The Shoremen responded in a big way as they ran away with the game, scoring a total of eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the 5th to take a big 14-2 lead. The Chargers got two back in the top of the 7th as Dylan Witkowski (Sr.) launched a two-run home run, but Washington (Md.) closed out the Chargers in seven innings for the game-one win.

- Dylan Witkowski went 1-3 with a two-run home run and one walk

Game 2: 6-9 Loss

How it Happened:
Neither team could find the scoring column over the first few innings with good defense by both teams, with Donavan Boles, Logan Grimm (Fr.), and Joey Stein (So.) all recording hits for the Chargers early on. Washington (Md.) then found a run in the 4th and three more in the 5th to jump out to a 4-0 lead, but LBC had an answer in the top of the 6th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Boles hit a sacrifice fly to score Shane Stephan (Jr.) to get LBC on the board, then CJ Peterson (So.) knocked a two-RBI single as the Chargers pulled within one run at 4-3. After good defense in the bottom frame, the Shoremen added three more runs in the 7th inning to go back up by four, but a two-run home run by Dylan Witkowski in the top of the 8th got LBC right back in the game as they trailed 7-5. The Shoremen got a two-run homer in response right after, then despite a solo home run by Evan Sareyka (Sr.), the Chargers fell short in game two as Washington (Md.) closed out the game for the three-run win.
