Baseball Earns Road Win over (RV) Ursinus

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team traveled to Collegeville, Pa. to take on (RV) Ursinus in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon, powering to a 17-12 victory to end a three-game losing skid and beat a team receiving votes in the D3baseball.com national poll. The Chargers improve to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the United East while the Bears drop to 13-5 overall.
 
How it Happened:
The Chargers took the lead right away as they plated two runs in the 1st inning, with Dylan Witkowski (Sr.) lining a RBI-double to left and scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Evan Sareyka (Sr.). The Bears, however, had an immediate response as they sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring seven total runs on six hits as they led 7-2 after just one inning. The defense responded with a 1-2-3 2nd inning, then chipped at the lead with two runs in the 3rd as Tanner Smith (Sr.) drove in Sareyka on a RBI-double and Donavan Boles (So.) scored on a groundout to cut the lead to three. The Chargers loaded up the bases to start the 4th inning before Witkowski was hit by a pitch to bring a run in, starting a six-run rally in the inning to propel LBC in front. In the 4th, Sareyka drove in two runs on a double to right field, then Boles knocked one in on a single and Smith grounded out to score Sareyka, then Boles came home after a steal and an error for a 10-7 Chargers lead. Ursinus got even immediately in the bottom frame with three runs to tie it up at 10, then the Chargers took the lead for good in the 5th as Witkowski hit a RBI-single and Sareyka launched a two-run home run to right center, putting the Chargers up 13-10. After a scoreless 6th, LBC padded the lead in the 7th on a two-run single by Smith, then the Bears answered with two in the bottom frame to cut it back to three. Witkowski added another run on a single and Alex Fox (Fr.) hit a sacrifice fly in the 9th, then the Bears went 1-2-3 to end the game as the Chargers earned the high-scoring road victory.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers had 17 runs on a season-high 18 hits and 16 RBI with no errors, while the Bears had 12 runs on nine hits and 10 RBI with three errors
- Tanner Smith led the Chargers with a career-high five hits on 5-6 with four RBI
- Dylan Witkowski had a season-high four hits on 4-5 with four RBI and four runs scored
- Evan Sareyka had a game-high five RBI on 3-4 hitting with four runs scored and a walk
- On the mound, Evan Sareyka (W, 1-1) earned the win as he pitched the final 5.0 innings and allowed just two runs on two hits with five strikeouts
- The Bears were led by Matthew Callahan with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored
 
Information to Know:
This was the Chargers' first-ever matchup with Ursinus and their third time scoring 10+ runs so far this season, going 3-0 in those games. The Chargers improve to 5-5 in true road games so far this season with their win over the Bears. Evan Sareyka now leads the United East in total home runs with five for the season, with Dylan Witkowski tied for second in the conference with four. Witkowski also ranks third in the United East in both RBI (22) and OPS (1.311), with Sareyka ranked fifth in OPS at 1.219.
