Three LBC Student-Athletes Earn United East Weekly Honors

The United East Conference released their weekly award winners for last week on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, with the Chargers placing three players on the list with Men's Volleyball junior Carson Hoover earning Offensive Player of the Week, Men's Outdoor Track & Field sophomore Kyle Durkin earning Field Athlete of the Week, and Women's Outdoor Track & Field junior Abby Ames landing Track Athlete of the Week. This is the fourth career Player of the Week honor for Durkin, the third weekly honor for Ames, and the first career Player of the Week for Hoover.

Hoover helped lead the Chargers to a 2-0 week in United East play as the Chargers improved to 5-0 in conference, the lone remaining unbeaten team in the United East as they took down both Valley Forge and Immaculata in 3-0 sweeps. Carson tallied 14 total kills across the two matches with just three errors, leading the Chargers with a game-high nine kills against the Patriots on Tuesday. Hoover also lit it up from behind the serving line, landing 10 total service aces including a career-high seven against Valley Forge, adding three aces against the Mighty Macs on Saturday. Carson currently ranks fourth in the United East in total kills this season with 208 and eighth in the conference in kills per set at 2.70, also ranking second on the team in both service aces with 22 and total digs with 141.

Ames earned her third weekly honor of the year and her first of the Outdoor season as she placed third in the 1,500-Meters at the LVC Outdoor Mini Meet with a time of 5:19.40. This time ranks her first in the United East so far this season and ninth overall in the NCCAA as she cracks the top-10 nationally in that regard.

Durkin earned Field honors for the conference this week after his opening Outdoor performance at the LVC Outdoor Mini Meet, placing second in the Javelin Throw out of 26 athletes with a distance of 55.90 Meters. This mark set a new LBC program record in the event as he beat his own record set last season, ranking him first in the United East in the event. Nationally, Kyle ranks second in the NCCAA in the Javelin Throw and 24th overall in NCAA Division III in the event.

Hoover and the Men's Volleyball team have a full week as the season winds down, hosting their final regular season match and Senior Day on Wednesday, March 25 against Gallaudet at 7:00 p.m., followed by two road matches as they travel to Misericordia in non-conference play on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. and travel to face Neumann in United East play on Saturday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. For Durkin, Ames, and the rest of the Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams, the Chargers are back in action this Friday and Saturday, March 27-28 as they travel to compete in the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University in Chester, Pa.
