Capital Wins for the Chargers

The Lancaster Bible softball team took a trip down to Washington D.C. to take on conference opponent Gallaudet. The Chargers would take both games over the Bison. This will improve Lancaster Bible to 9-6 on the year and 2-0 in conference.

Game One: 20-0 Win (5 inn.)

How it Happened:
The Chargers came out firing, putting runs on the board immediately in the first inning. A single from Rebekah Hoover brought in the game's first run, and two batters later, KariAnn Mecke followed with a two-RBI single to give the Chargers an early 3–0 lead.
Lancaster Bible kept the pressure on in the second inning, capitalizing on five walks and two hits to add four more runs and extend the lead to 7–0. The Bison were then retired in order, allowing the Chargers to carry momentum into the third.
The offense exploded in the third inning. Hoover added to her big day with an RBI double, and a single plus a fielder's choice pushed across another run. Mecke delivered again with a three-run double, and Grace Goodman chipped in with an RBI single. By the end of the inning, the Chargers had plated seven more runs, stretching the lead to 20–0.
Both teams were held scoreless over the final two innings, as the Chargers secured a dominant 20–0 victory.

By the Numbers:
  • The Chargers had twenty runs on thirteen hits with no errors
  • The Bison had zero runs on one hit with eight errors
  • KariAnn Mecke would go 5-5 with a game high eight RBIs
  • Grace Goodman, Rebekah Hoover, and Ava Stern would all add two RBIs
  • Maddison Atkins would secure the win (6-2) with six strikeouts, this would also include her 300th strikeout of her career
 

Game Two: 22-4 Win (5 inn.)

How it Happened:
The Chargers would start game two in similar fashion to game one, striking early in the first inning. A single by Rebekah Hoover drove in the game's first run, followed by Maddison Atkins adding two more with a triple. Amanda Hoover continued the strong start with a two-RBI single, as the Chargers kept the pressure on. Three more doubles, along with two walks and an error, helped Lancaster Bible erupt for 11 runs in the opening frame, taking an 11–0 lead.
The Bison would respond with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 11–2, but the Chargers wasted no time answering. Lancaster Bible added five more runs in the second inning to extend its lead and regain full control.
After a scoreless third inning, Ava Stern and Carleigh Cleland contributed in the fourth, combining to drive in three more runs. Gallaudet answered with two runs of its own, but the Chargers continued their offensive surge.
Lancaster Bible would tack on three additional runs to close out the game, securing a dominant 22–4 victory.

By the Numbers:
  • The Chargers scored twenty-two runs on seventeen hits with two errors
  • The Bison scored four runs on one hit with twelve errors
  • Rebekah Hoover would 4-4 with a game high five RBIs
  • Ava Stern would add four RBIs going 5-5 and Maddison Atkins three RBIs
  • Ava Stern would pick up the win (3-4) with six strikeouts
