Game 1:
11-10 Win
Â
How it Happened:
Valley Forge attacked right away with two runs on two hits in the 1st inning, but the Chargers had an answer in the bottom frame. After a leadoff walk by
Dylan Witkowski (Sr.),
Evan Sareyka (Sr.) reached on an error that scored Witkowski to get LBC on the board, then after a Sareyka steal of second base,
Donavan Boles (So.) lined a single to center field to tie the game at 2-2. The Patriots took the lead back with another run in the 2nd, but the Chargers had a big response in store with five total hits in the bottom of the 2nd. With two runners on and one out, Witkowski launched a 3-run home run to right center to get LBC the lead at 5-3. Then after two more hits for LBC, Boles struck again with a ground-rule double to right center, scoring
Tanner Smith (Sr.) for a three-run lead after just two innings. Valley Forge got one back in the 4th, but LBC punched right back with another four-run inning, seeing RBI-hits from Sareyka,
Malachi Sloane (Jr.), and
Joey Stein (So.) en route to a 10-4 advantage through four. The Patriots, however, began to chip away as the game went on, adding runs in the 5th, 6th, and 8th innings as they scored six unanswered runs, fighting back to tie the game at 10-10. With two outs in the bottom of the 8th, the Chargers rallied to put two runners on base for
CJ Peterson (So.), poking an infield single to third as Daniel Peña (Fr.) came home to score the go-ahead run as LBC led by one. The defense slammed the door in the 9th inning as LBC earned the one-run victory in game one.
