Baseball Defeats Penn St. York 16-9

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played their first home contest of the season over at Penn Medicine Park in Lancaster, Pa. on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Penn St. York by a score of 16-9. The Chargers improve to 3-2 overall while the Lions begin their season at 0-1 overall.

How it Happened:
The Chargers struck first as Dylan Witkowski (Sr.) drew a leadoff walk and stole a pair of bases, then with one out Evan Sareyka (Sr.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score him and give the Chargers the early lead. The Lions rallied in the top of the 3rd inning as they plated three runs with two hits to swing ahead 3-1, but the Chargers responded in the bottom frame as Sareyka knocked a 2-run single to left field, tying the game up at 3-3. Penn St. York then added three more runs in the 4th with three hits and two Charger errors, then LBC fought back in the bottom of the inning as Joey Stein (So.) scored on a wild pitch, then Witkowski lined a double down the left field line to score CJ Peterson (So.) to make it a one-run game. Two batters later, Shane Stephan (Jr.) lined a single up the middle, driving in a run to tie the game back up at 6-6. The Chargers then jumped ahead with a six-spot in the 5th inning, starting with Logan Grimm (Fr.) scoring on an error, then Stein scored on an error to go up two. Then, Everett Bell (So.) and Stephan each had RBI-hits, Bell with a single and Stephan with a deep triple to get LBC to 10 runs. To cap off the scoring, Nate Rosenzweig (Jr.) knocked a 2-run single to right center, putting the Chargers up 12-6. The Lions got one back in the 6th before the Chargers swung right back, with Alex Fox (Fr.) hitting the gap in right center for a 2-run inside-the-park home run, extending the lead to 14-7 LBC. Penn St. York added two more before another two by the Chargers in the 8th inning after a deep RBI-triple by Witkowski and a wild pitch that scored Bell, then Sareyka pitched the ninth to close the door on a Lancaster Bible victory.
