The Lancaster Bible College Softball team returned to the win column on Saturday afternoon with a pair of road United East wins over Penn St. Abington, winning 13-6 and 4-3 in eight innings. The Chargers improve to 15-8 overall and remain unbeaten at 8-0 in conference, while the Lions drop to 10-16 overall and 1-9 in conference.

How it Happened:
Both teams put up a monster 1st inning, starting with the Chargers as
Ava Stern (Fr.) had a RBI-double to left for the 1-0 LBC lead. Then,
Maddison Atkins (Sr.) reached on an error and
KariAnn Mecke (Jr.) had a sacrifice fly, bringing two more runs around.
Amanda Hoover (Sr.) then added a RBI-single to bring one home, then
Grace Goodman (So.) cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to right center on a huge play before Stern added her second RBI of the inning on a sac fly as LBC scored eight runs before ever playing defense. The Lions responded in a big way, scoring six total runs including three LBC errors that made the score 8-6 after just one inning. The Chargers loaded the bases in the 3rd for Atkins, drawing a hit-by-pitch as Goodman scored, then Mecke hit a single to bring another home as the Chargers took the 10-6 advantage. The defense continued to hold strong as the 6th inning saw another LBC spark on offense, with
Carleigh Cleland (Jr.) hitting a RBI-single and
Kendall Jackman (Fr.) driving in two on a single for a 13-6 lead. The Chargers closed the game out in the 7th to take game one by seven runs and stay unbeaten in conference play.

How it Happened:
The pitching held strong for both teams early on as the Chargers and Lions combined for five hits and no score through the first four innings of play. The Chargers broke through in the 5th inning as
Grace Goodman lined a single to center field, scoring
Kendall Jackman for the game's first run and the LBC lead. The defense shut down a scoring threat in the bottom frame, then the Chargers added another in the 6th as
Maddison Atkins doubled to left center, scoring
Rebekah Hoover for a 2-0 lead. The Lions were down to their final out in the 7th, but rallied with the bases loaded to score two runs and tie the game at 2-2, sending the game to extra innings. Atkins came through in the top of the 8th, driving in two runs on a clutch double to right center to put LBC back on top 4-2. Penn St. Abington got one run to score, but a groundout sealed the deal as the Chargers held on to win in eight innings and complete the series sweep over the Lions.

The Chargers are now 9-28 all-time against Penn St. Abington and have snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Lions since 2022. The Chargers improve upon their best conference start in program history, jumping to 8-0 in the United East this season and securing their best conference record since at least 2015 with a .500 UEC record or better, finishing 10-10 in 2015. Game two was the first extra-inning game of the season for the Chargers and their first extra-inning win since April 27, 2024 against Penn College at home. The Chargers are tied for the best record in the United East this season with Wilson at 8-0, with the two teams meeting later this season on April 21 in Chambersburg, Pa.
