Tanner Smith hit doubles back-to-back to cut it to 2-1 after four. Penn St. Brandywine immediately answered with two more runs in the top of the 5th, stretching their lead to 4-1 and shutting down the Chargers over the next three innings allowing just one hit. The Chargers made some noise in the bottom of the 8th as
Evan Sareyka hit a RBI-single to score
Shane Stephan (Jr.), then Boles hit his second double of the game to score Sareyka and cut the deficit to just one run entering the final frame. Â
How it Happened:
While game one was low-scoring, the second was the opposite as Brandywine jumped on the board in the 1st off a grand slam by Jason Hankins to lead 4-0 right away. After a scoreless first attempt, the Chargers' bats got going in the 2nd with a huge answer, starting with a bases-loaded walk by
Joey Stein (So.) to make it 4-1. After both
Logan Grimm (Fr.) and
Shane Stephan hit sacrifice flies to make it a one-run game,
Dylan Witkowski flipped the lead with one swing on a three-run blast down the left field line, putting the Chargers on top 6-4 and capping a six-run burst in the 2nd for LBC. The Lions swung right back as they tied the game at 6-6 on a two-run homer, but a RBI-double by
Malachi Sloane (Jr.) put LBC right back on top in the bottom frame. The Chargers then scored two more in the 4th as Witkowski, Sareyka, and
Donavan Boles combined for three straight doubles, making the lead three for LBC at 9-6. Brandywine cut it to two in the 6th, but Boles crushed a two-run homer to left field in response to put LBC up four. Later in the 6th, Grimm and Stephan both connected on RBI-singles, giving the Chargers the 13-7 advantage. The Lions scored another in the top of the 7th, but the Chargers kept the momentum going from the 6th in the bottom frame with a two-out rally. Boles scored on a fielding error, then
