Baseball Earns 9-8 Win over Wilson to Sweep Series

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played a home contest at Cooper Park in Millersville, Pa. on Tuesday evening, defeating Wilson by a score of 9-8 to finish out the two-game sweep in United East play. The Chargers improve to 10-11 overall and 5-3 in conference while the Phoenix drop to 4-16-1 overall and 3-5 in conference.

How it Happened:
After a 1-2-3 opening frame, the Chargers hopped on the board early with three runs, starting with a RBI-single by Evan Sareyka (Sr.) to open the scoring, then Dylan Witkowski (Sr.) hit a double to center field to score Sareyka. The scoring closed with a single by Donavan Boles (So.) to score Witkowski, all with no one out as LBC led by three after one. The Chargers added another in the 3rd inning as Tanner Smith (Sr.) hit a double to right center to score another run, then LBC added two more in the 4th on a two-run single by Witkowski to increase the Charger lead to 6-0. The Phoenix then began clawing their way back into the game, scoring two in the 5th and two in the 6th to cut the lead to 6-4. Wilson then surged ahead in the 7th inning, scoring three runs on two hits to finish out scoring seven unanswered runs and taking a one-run lead. Lancaster Bible had the answer, tying the game back up at 7-7 on a solo home run by Boles to left center. The Chargers then retook the lead as Malachi Sloane (Jr.) scored on a wild pitch and Joey Stein (So.) hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to put LBC up 9-7. The Phoenix threatened in the top of the 9th with one run, but Noah Robinette (Jr.) shut the door with two outs including a sliding foul catch by Boles at first to close out a 9-8 victory for the Chargers.
