Four Chargers Land All-American Honors in Early Portion of NCCAA Championships

The Lancaster Bible College Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams began competition at the NCCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday and Thursday in Wilmore, Ky. at Asbury University, earning seven total top-5 finishes including four NCCAA All-Americans at the conclusion of Thursday's action. The Chargers have already set a program record for the most NCCAA All-Americans at a single postseason meet with four as Friday's action still lies ahead.

Decathlon/Heptathlon

Over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, three LBC athletes competed in the multi events (Decathlon (M)/Heptathlon (W)) with 10 events for Men's and seven events for Women's competition. In the Decathlon, both Micah Richardson (Sr.) and Benjamin Cornish (Sr.) represented the Chargers, with Richardson placing fifth overall across both days with 4,771 points and Cornish placing ninth overall with 3,184 points. Micah finished in the top-3 in two events, placing second in both the 110M Hurdles (17.51) and Long Jump (6.22m), setting a PR in the hurdles. Benjamin had one top-3 finish across two days as he placed third in the Discus Throw with a personal record of 28.09 Meters. Faith Garber (Jr.) represented the Chargers in the Heptathlon, placing eighth overall with a score of 2,385 points and ranking fourth in the Javelin Throw at 20.37 Meters for her best individual finish.

Thursday Action (Men)

The Men's team had a historic Thursday in individual competition as three different Chargers landed NCCAA All-American honors by placing in the top-3 of their respective events. Starting in the Javelin Throw, Kyle Durkin (So.) repeated as an All-American with a throw of 58.56 Meters, taking first place in the event to claim the national Javelin Throw title for the NCCAA, the first-ever NCCAA National Champion in Men's program history for the Chargers. Durkin's throw for the title was also an Asbury site record and the 13th-best distance in the history of the NCCAA Championships, as well as the first throw of over 58 meters this decade and the best distance since 2017. This wasn't all in the Javelin Throw for the Chargers, however, as Hudson Gosselin (Fr.) finished right behind Durkin for second place in the event with a career-best distance of 56.83 Meters, marking the first time in program history the Chargers have placed multiple All-Americans in the same event. LBC added another All-American on the track to end the day as David Helms (Jr.) placed third overall in the 10,000-Meters with a time of 31:30.86, his first career Outdoor All-American finish and joining Mitchell Gray (2023 & 2024) as the second LBC All-American in the 10K. In the jumps, Landon Zeiset (Fr.) tied for ninth overall in the High Jump with a height of 1.80 Meters and placed eighth overall in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.44 Meters, while Aidan Miller (So.) jumped for 5.96 Meters in the Long Jump and placed 16th overall.

Thursday Action (Women)

The Women's Team was highlighted by an All-American performance from Seana Dougherty (So.), placing third in the 10,000-Meters with a time of 40:41.12, claiming third by less than a second to medal in the event. Dougherty earns her first career NCCAA All-American honors and is the Chargers' first Women's Outdoor All-American since 2023 and first-ever in the 10K event. Elly Bruner (Jr.) also performed well for the Chargers, earning a pair of fourth-place finishes in both the High Jump and the Long Jump. In the High Jump, Bruner tied for second at 1.57 Meters with a tiebreak on attempts earning her fourth overall in the event. In the Long Jump, Elly jumped a distance of 5.18 Meters to set a new program record, placing fourth overall at about five inches behind the third-place finisher.
