The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team capped off Homecoming weekend here in Lancaster on Saturday evening as they hosted Moravian, dropping a tight game by a score of 3-1. The Chargers drop to 1-4 overall while the Greyhounds improve to 3-3 overall.
Â
How it Happened:
The Greyhounds came out firing with six shots and four penalty corners in the first eight minutes, but the Chargers' defense passed the early test as
Amelia Huey (Gr.) made three saves in goal. The Chargers then drew two penalty corners as
Rebekah Hoover (So.) had a shot on goal that was saved, then the teams traded possession in the final few minutes as the first quarter remained scoreless.
Â
It was all Greyhounds on the offensive end in the second quarter as they controlled possession and took four total corners, firing seven shots at the goal with Huey holding strong as she made six saves for a fantastic defensive quarter. Despite no shots or corners in the second, the Chargers carried the game into halftime at 0-0.
Â
The script quickly flipped in the third quarter as Moravian drew a penalty stroke in the first minute, sneaking a score past Huey to break through and open the scoring at 1-0 on the road.
Grace Barnett (Jr.) made a defensive save just 40 seconds later, then the Greyhounds got another penalty stroke to try and really swing the score, but missed wide off the post for the lead to stay at one. The Chargers had a chance on a penalty corner but could not score, then the Greyhounds went on to take seven corners in the period, adding another score in the final minute to take a 2-0 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Â
The Greyhounds kept up the pace in the fourth, scoring yet again just two minutes in to increase the lead. After a save by
Lauren Stup (Fr.), the Chargers drew two penalty corners, with the second resulting in a score for LBC as
Gracie Hoffman (So.) gathered the ball in the box off a shot into the zone by Hoover, getting the Chargers on the board with about four minutes to play. After two more Moravian shots, the clock ran out as the Greyhounds spoiled Homecoming for Lancaster Bible with the road victory.
