The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team came within one set of winning their first match of the season on Wednesday at DeSales, but fell just short, as the Bulldogs defeated the Chargers 5-4.
LBC led 2-1 after winning at number one and two doubles.
Peter Coderre and
Phil Smock won their number one doubles match, 8-6, while
Zak Kraehmer and
Brandon Klinger won their doubles match, 8-2.
"We played really well today in the doubles matches," Chargers' Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "The guys hit good shots and were smart on the court."
After singles' wins by Smock and Kraehmer, the Chargers were one match away from winning the program's first match, but it was not to be. Coderre and Klinger each won the first set of their singles' matches, but could not close the deal.
"It's disappointing, but the guys battled today and that's all we can ask for," Freeman said. "Losing 5-4 our last two matches, hopefully that is something the guys can take with them into their off-season training and use it as motivation."
