Men's Tennis Rewind

After securing the first win in program history on March 26, the Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team enjoyed its second win just three days later when they defeated Albright, 5-4. The Chargers fell in their other three matches this past week, but still have a record of 2-4 this spring and 2-6 overall.

Tuesday, March 27:
A day after winning their first match, the Chargers opened up NEAC play with a 9-0 loss to Penn St. Harrisburg. LBC's Jeremy Davis fell just short in the match of the day, losing his number five singles match, 1-6, 6-3, 10-5. Davis and doubles partner, Collin George fell just short in their number three doubles match as well, 9-8.

Thursday, March 29:
After not winning a match for over three years, the Chargers won their second match less than a week after their first as they downed Albright, 5-4. LBC jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks in part to the doubles teams of Alex Ko/Grant Noel and Brandon Cutler/Jeremy Davis. Ko and Noel 8-4 at number two doubles, while Cutler and Davis won 8-3 at number three doubles. Alex Derus, Noel and Davis won their singles matches to clinch the victory for LBC. Derus won, 6-1, 7-6 over Ian Moore of Albright at number two singles, while Noel cruised to an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over Cain Walker. Davis also won easily, 6-2, 6-0 over Chris Harkins.

Saturday, March 31:
LBC returned to NEAC play and fell to a strong Penn St. Abington team, 8-1. Davis recorded the lone win for the Chargers, winning his number five singles match, 6-4, 6-3. Derus fought hard in his number one singles match, but couldn't outlast Nigel Hopkinson and lost, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

Monday, April 2:
Playing their fifth match in eight days, the Chargers fell to Eastern, 8-1. The number two doubles team of Derus and Davis got LBC's lone point as they won, 8-4. Head Coach Ethan McNaughton said he was impressed with the week Derus had.

"Alex is a consistent, good player," McNaughton said. "He is positive, but still realistic and isn't an emotional wreck on the court. He is even-keeled and has a bit of an edge to him when he plays."

The Chargers will get a much needed rest the remainder of the week and do not play again until April 10, when they face Baptist Bible at 4 p.m.
