My how things can change in a day.
Twenty four hours after being crushed by top seeded Toccoa Falls, 10-0, the Lancaster Bible College baseball team won for the second time on Thursday, defeating sixth seeded Ohio Christian University, 9-8 and extending their season at least one more day.
The Chargers, having already eliminated North Central University earlier in the day, led 8-1 in the fifth inning before the Trailblazers mounted a comeback and tied the game at 8-8 in sixth inning. LBC was undaunted however and with runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the seventh, freshman
Jake Ritchey stepped to the plate and drove home the winning run with a single.
Ritchey started the game for LBC as well and pitched into the fifth before running into trouble.
Paul Greco and Mitch Kumher followed on the hill for the Chargers, limiting the potent Trailblazers' offense.
Earlier in the game,
Kody Godsey hit a bases-clearing triple to give LBC an 8-1 lead. Godsey finished the game with five RBI.
LBC will take on seventh seeded Manhattan Christian College tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. The winner will advance to within one game of the Finals, while the loser will be eliminated. Should LBC win, they will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
Notes:
-LBC won more games on Thursday (two), then they had in three previous appearances at the NCCAA World Series (one).
-With four hits in two games on Thursday, Godsey now has 46 for the season. With four hits on Friday and/or Saturday, Godsey would become just the third player in LBC history with 50 hits in a single year.
T.J. Horn and
Paul Greco are the other two Chargers' with 50+ hits.
