Chargers Drop Season Opener at Baptist Bible

Lancaster Bible opened the 2014 season with a 6-3 loss to Baptist Bible on Wednesday in Clarks Summit, Pa. The Chargers held a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches, but couldn't hold on as the Defenders won five of six singles matches  to post the comeback victory. 

The number one doubles team of Alex Derus and Alex Ko got the Chargers on the board as they defeated Spencer Fountain and Adam Benjamin, 8-6. Dan Soden and Tedd Holbrook, the Chargers' number two doubles team also won as they defeated Dillon Bowman and Connor Ellsworth, 8-5. 

Derus picked up the lone singles win for the Chargers as he defeated Benjamin, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 at number one singles. Ko dropped a tough match at number two where he lost to Fountain, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. 

Chandler Gillman played well in his first collegiate tennis match as he dropped a 6-2, 1-6, 5-10 decision to Bowman.

The Chargers are back in action on Sunday, March 16 when they travel to Cresson, Pa. to take on Mount Aloysius at 2 p.m.
