The Lancaster Bible men's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Monday as the Chargers lost to Eastern, 6-3 in St. Davids, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-3 this season, while they remain 2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
On Monday, Eastern took all three doubles matches to take control of the match. Both the number two and number three doubles matches were decided by scores of 9-7. The number two doubles team of
Tedd Holbrook and
Dan Soden was on the losing end of one of those matches, as was the number three doubles team of
Cody Rupp and
Evan Holbrook. The number one doubles team of
Alex Derus and
Nathan Amspacher lost 8-4 to Grant Williams and Kyle Berner.
Williams was on the winning end in singles as well as he defeated Derus at number one singles, 7-5, 6-4. Amspacher, a freshman, dropped the first set of his number two singles match, but roared back to win the match, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, to get the Chargers on the board.
Tedd Holbrook dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at number three singles, but Soden picked him up with an 8-2 pro-set victory over John Anchundia at number four singles.
Rupp, playing his first match of the season, lost 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles, while freshman
Evan Holbrook won for the second straight day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Tim Bowdoin.
Lancaster Bible is back on the court on Thursday when the Chargers host Penn St. Abington at 3:30 p.m. at Linden Hall School in Lititz, Pa.
