In a week in which the Lancaster Bible men's and women's tennis teams will play a combined 10 matches, neither team was able to solve Penn St. Abington as the Lancaster Bible men's team suffered the same fate as the women's team from Tuesday as the Nittany Lions defeated the Chargers, 9-0 on Thursday at Linden Hall School in Lititz, Pa.Â
The loss drops the Chargers to 3-4 this season and 2-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Nittany Lions improved to 9-3 overall and stayed perfect in NEAC play as they are now 4-0.Â
Penn St. Abington controlled things from the beginning as the Nittany Lions won all three doubles matches. Lancaster Bible's second doubles team,
Tedd Holbrook and
Dan Soden, put up the best mark as they lost 8-3.Â
Soden had the most competitive singles match as well at number four singles as he lost, 7-6 (15-13), 6-3 to Abington's Monte Dunson. The 15-13 first set tie-breaker is the longest tie-breaker in program history and Soden just missed pulling out the victory.
Reigning NAC West Player of the Week,
Nathan Amspacher saw his three-match singles winning streak come to an end as he lost to Penn St. Abington's James Howell, 6-2, 6-2.Â
Lancaster Bible returns to the court on Friday when both the men's and women's tennis teams will travel to Williamsport, Pa. to take on Penn College for a match that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.Â
