The Lancaster Bible men's tennis team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 loss to Penn St. Berks on Wednesday in Reading, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-2 this season, while the Nittany Lions improved to 1-9 overall and 1-1 in NEAC play.
Freshman
Nathan Amspacher was the lone Lancaster Bible player to win a set on Wednesday as he lost a hard-fought match at number two singles, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. Amspacher and number one doubles partner
Alex Derus lost their match, 8-2, as did the number three doubles team of
Justin Bendo and
Evan Holbrook.Â
Evan's brother, junior
Tedd Holbrook, lost his number three singles match to Volan Nnanpalle, 6-0, 6-1. Derus didn't fare much better at number one singles as he lost, 6-1, 6-1, while fellow senior
Dan Soden lost his number four singles match, 6-1, 6-2.Â
Lancaster Bible is scheduled to play Bryn Athyn on April 7 at 4 p.m., should that match not be played, the Chargers will not play again until Saturday, April 11 when they host Keuka at 12 p.m.
