Chargers are Playoff Bound

The Lancaster Bible men's tennis team is returning to the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs as the Chargers defeated Bryn Athyn, 9-0 on Saturday in Bryn Athyn, Pa. to secure the third and final seed for next week's postseason tournament. The Chargers made the playoffs in 2014, but missed out on the playoffs by one match last season. Lancaster Bible has won three matches in a row and caps the regular season with an overall record of 5-9 and a 3-2 mark in conference play. The three conference wins are the most in a single season in program history.

On Saturday, the Chargers cruised for the second straight day as they dominated play from the opening serve. Daniel Fabrick and Tedd Holbrook won, 8-2 at number one singles, while Jesse Weaver and Evan Holbrook equaled the feat at number two doubles. Not to be left out, Nathan Grimley and Jared Steiner also won, 8-2 in their number three doubles match.

In singles, Fabrick won his number one match, 6-4, 6-1 over Nikita Klinisovs and Tedd Holbrook won his number two match, 6-1, 6-1 over Colin Rogers. Holbrook now has 24 career singles victories and is now two clear of second place on the all-time list. Holbrook became the all-time leader in wins in program history on Friday against Delaware Valley and is now two ahead of Jeremy Davis ('13) and Alex Derus ('15).

Weaver won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles and Grimley was victorious at number four singles, 6-1, 6-1. Ming Bowser improved to 2-1 in NEAC play at number five singles as he won 6-1, 6-0 over Aron Jackson. Jason Steiner played well again on Saturday as he won, 6-0, 6-2 over Jayson Marbach.

The Chargers will face Penn St. Berks in the NEAC Semifinals next week in Clarks Summit, Pa. The match will take place on Friday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Birchwood Tennis Club.
