The Lancaster Bible men's tennis team, playing in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs for just the second time in school history, lost to Penn St. Berks, 5-0 Friday evening in Clarks Summit, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 5-10 overall this season, while Penn St. Berks, 9-6 this year, moves on to the NEAC Final on Saturday morning where they will meet Penn St. Abington.
With the match being played as the first team to win five matches is the winner, the Chargers struggled during the three doubles matches as Penn St. Berks took control of the match.
Daniel Fabrick and
Tedd Holbrook dropped their number one doubles match, 8-1, as did the number two team of
Evan Holbrook and
Jesse Weaver.
Nathan Grimley and
Jared Steiner didn't fare much better at number three, as they lost, 8-2.
In singles, with the Nittany Lions needing just two wins to be victorious, the Chargers played well and fought until the end, but it wasn't enough as Penn St. Berks saw its number three singles player, Ryan Fritz, defeat Weaver, 6-2, 6-0. Dylan Deleon dispatched
Evan Holbrook, 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles and all of the other matches were stopped as the Nittany Lions claimed their fifth match win.
Lancaster Bible's players will now turn their attention to the individual tournament which will begin on Saturday afternoon.
Notes: The Chargers also lost, 5-0 in their only other appearance in the NEAC Playoffs, which was in 2014.
