The Lancaster Bible men's tennis team wrapped up its 2016 season this past weekend in Clarks Summit, Pa. at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Individual Championships. Seven players earned NEAC 3rd Team All-Conference honors as the team completed one of the finest seasons in program history.
In the doubles portion of the tournament, the number two and number three teams from Lancaster Bible participated and both earned third place finishes. The number two team of
Evan Holbrook and
Jesse Weaver lost their opening match, 8-0 to Penn St. Abington's Monte Dunson and Justin McNab, but battled back to defeat Garrett Calton and Mason Record of Keuka, 8-2 to earn a victory in the consolation match.
In number three doubles,
Nathan Grimley and
Jared Steiner dropped their semifinal match to Penn St. Abington's Mike Herman and JT Kling, 8-1, but rebounded to defeat Rich Matrassi and Joe Rosario of Keuka, 8-4 in the consolation match.
Senior
Tedd Holbrook, playing number two singles, lost his semifinal match to top-seeded Will Byler from Penn St. Berks, 6-3, 6-2, but like his teammates did in doubles, fought back to win his consolation match and earn third place as he defeated Christopher Morrin of Penn College, 8-6. At number four singles, senior
Nathan Grimley dropped his semifinal match, 6-3, 6-3 to Angel Negron of Penn St. Berks, but Grimley won his consolation match as well, as he defeated Mason Record of Keuka, 8-0.
Lancaster Bible's
Ming Bowser almost pulled off one of the big upsets of the tournament at number five singles as he dropped a three-set heartbreaker to top-seeded JT Kling of Penn St. Abington, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5, but rebounded to defeat Rich Matrassi of Keuka, 8-5. Finally,
Jason Steiner dropped his semifinal match at number six singles to Owen Jones of Penn St. Berks, 6-4, 6-3, but battled back to win his consolation match, 8-0 over Keuka's Joe Rosario.
Notes: Tedd Holbrook finished his collegiate career with 25 singles victories, the most in program history...The Chargers also set a new program record for number of players earning NEAC All-Conference honors with seven.
