The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team, riding a three-match winning streak heading into Tuesday's match with Hood, looked to be on its way to its fourth in a row, but the Blazers outlasted the Chargers and snapped the winning streak, as Hood won, 3-2 at Horst Athletic Center. The Blazers won, 28-26, 19-25, 10-25, 25-21, 15-10, as the Chargers dropped to 10-11 this season and Hood improved to 8-15.
First Set Highlights:
-Hood led 24-21 late in the first set, but Lancaster Bible rattled off four straight points to not only extend the set, but hold a set-point at 25-24...The Blazers knotted the match and then fought off another set point at 26-25, before winning the final three points and taking the set, 28-26.
Second Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 9-3 lead early in the set and eventually led, 14-7, before Hood mounted a comeback and cut its deficit to 18-16 and then tied the set at 19-19...The Chargers hung tough and won the final six points of the set, two of them coming off kills from junior
Hannah Gipe, and took the set, 25-19.
Third Set Highlights:
-The Chargers once again jumped out to an early lead, but instead of the Blazers coming back, the Chargers put their collective feet on the gas and pulled away from Hood, taking the third set, 25-10...The Chargers had 10 kills in the third set and did not commit a single error.
Fourth Set Highlights:
-It was Hood who jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set, as the Blazers opened up a 15-8 advantage after winning five of six points midway through the set...The Chargers tried to make it close in the latter parts of the set, as they cut the deficit to 23-19, but it was not enough and Hood extended the match to a fifth set with a 25-21 victory.
Fifth Set Highlights:
-The final set went back-and-forth in the early parts as the teams switched sides with the Blazers winning 8-7...Hood would eventually win seven straight points in the condensed set and took a 13-7 lead after another Lancaster Bible error...The Chargers won the next two points, but Hood would eventually win the set, 15-10 and take the match, 3-2.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 53 kills, while Hood had 41...The Chargers had a 17.1 hitting percentage, but committed 20 of their 27 errors in the sets they lost...Sophomore

reigning NEAC Player of the Week, had a match-high 17 kills to go with two blocks, while Gipe finished with 11 kills and six digs...Sophomore
Allison Shuey had seven kills, 40 assists, eight digs and four blocks...Freshman

Aleah Heyworth had nine kills and eight digs...Senior
Myranda Kemrer had a match-high 17 digs and a team-high three aces...Kari Betson had a team-high 12 kills for Hood.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 9-4 all-time against Hood...The Chargers defeated the Blazers, 3-2 last season...Hood also won in Lancaster in 2015 (3-1)...Four of the last five times these teams have met, the match has gone to five sets, with the Chargers holding a 3-1 record in those five-set matches...Lancaster Bible is now 0-3 in five-set matches this season, while Hood improved to 2-2.
