Seniors Shine in Sweep

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team picked up two of its biggest wins of the season on Saturday in Upstate New York, as the Chargers defeated Keuka, 15-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two. The victories in Keuka Park, N.Y. propel the Chargers to 17-11 overall this season and 7-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wolves fell to 12-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Lancaster Bible 15, Keuka 3 -- Game 1
Game Notes:
Both teams scored twice in the second inning of game one as Sam Taylor and JJ Sanchez had RBI hits for the Chargers...The Wolves took a 3-2 lead in the third, but Lancaster Bible battled back with two runs in its half of the fourth to grab a 4-3 advantage after four innings of play...The fifth inning was the biggest of the season for the Chargers as they scored nine times, highlighted by Justin Taylor's grand slam that made it 12-3 in favor of Lancaster Bible...The Chargers sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, including freshman Beau Heagy who had two walks in the inning, but collected two RBIs as he walked twice with the bases loaded...Lancaster Bible added two more runs in the seventh inning as Taylor homered again and his brother Sam had an RBI single later in the inning.

Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had 15 hits in game one as Justin Taylor was 2-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored...Sam Taylor was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, while Sanchez was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs...Braden Elliott was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI...Jensen King continued his fine play of late as he was 4-for-5 with three runs scored...Nate Staffieri started for the Chargers and earned his third win of the season as he pitched four innings and scattered eight hits...Dan Zimmerman, Tyler Greenly and Gabe Yoder pitched the final three innings for the Chargers and allowed just two hits, while striking out four.

Lancaster Bible 6, Keuka 2 -- Game 2
Games Notes:
There was no need for relievers in game two for Lancaster Bible as senior Nate Burns, on 1 1/2 days rest, pitched a complete game and led the Chargers to the win...Burns pitched four innings on Thursday in the game one loss to Penn College and returned on Saturday to allow just seven hits and two runs...Burns induced 14 ground ball outs, including double play balls in the eighth and ninth innings...After Keuka scored in the first inning, the Chargers scored twice in the second thanks to an error by the Wolves and then Lancaster Bible added three more runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead...Sanchez added another RBI in the eighth and Keuka got a run back in the eighth as well, but the Chargers followed the lead of Burns and swept the Wolves.

Inside the Box Score: The Chargers had 10 more hits in game two and once again, it was Jensen King who had a strong game as he was 3-for-4 with two runs scored...Heagy and Will Welsh each added two hits, while Josh Mayer was 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-7 all-time against Keuka...King was 7-of-9 over the two games with five runs scored...Welsh (10) and Justin Taylor (9) are ranked first and second in the NEAC in home runs this season...With his sixth victory of the season coming in game two, Burns is just one win away from tying the program record for wins in a season...Lou Curcio had seven wins during the 2010 season.
